Pushing the Boundaries: Live from the
Newport Folk Festival 2008

 In this two-hour special, NPR Music takes listeners to the historic Newport Folk Festival, which this year leaves behind traditional folk music in favor of performances by some of today's best-known folk-rock, alt-country, and even reggae artists. Each will perform acoustic sets over the course of two days at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen and WFUV host Rita Houston will have the highlights in a broadcast from the festival grounds. An NPR Music co-production with WFUV.

The Newport Jazz Festival has been a magnet for top jazz performers every year since it began in 1954, as well as the source of storied jazz recordings, including iconic performances by Miles Davis, Duke Ellington and Nina Simone. This year looks to be no different, and this Hot Summer Jams special will feature two hours of highlights. WBGO's Josh Jackson will host from the festival grounds.
