| Erin plays the Jarana
Veracruzanna on this piece. It is a Mexican fretted instrument
she bought from a luthier in Mexico City. About the size of a
Ukulele, it has a thicker body with a cedar top and nylon or gut
strings in courses. Typically the jarana is an instrument from
the region of Veracruz, and is used as a rhythmical instrument,
along with the harp and the requinto jarocho. It generates a
unique sonority that is part of the matchless sounds of jarocha
music. |
